God’s plan is for our maturation.
Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity.
Hebrews 6:1
Israel was called out of Egypt to go through the Wilderness and into the Land.
The perennial problem of God’s people is that they find an oasis, an emphasis of truth or a supernatural experience, and camp there instead of continuing the journey into destiny. We prefer the miracles of the Wilderness – the cloud by day and the fire by night, the manna each morning, every need met – rather than the challenge of bringing down giants and the responsibility of subduing the Land.
And yet, the Land is to where we are called—to filling the earth and taking dominion over it as God’s vice-regents, in fact, fulfilling the Cultural Mandate (Gen 1:28; Mtt 28:18-20).
Nonetheless, both personally and corporately, the Wilderness is the Path to Maturity. The lessons learned there are the qualifications to rule in the Land; in fact, Israel faced 10 tests on their journey through the Wilderness, failing them all! Let us learn the lessons from their failure, and pursue the Path to Maturity.
