The Meaning of the Death of Jesus in the Gospel of John

August 4, 2016 by Virginia Orton

The Meaning of the Death of Jesus in the Gospel of John

The Gospel of John is distinct from the synoptic gospels containing unique narratives, sequences and themes that interpret Jesus’ life, death and exaltation. The forth evangelist’s selection and purposeful arrangement of historical events essentially subordinates historiography in order to illuminate Jesus’ historical self-disclosure in the light of his true origin and glory as … [Read more...]

The Joyful Sound

“… He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.” Col 1:18 ESV “But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” 1 Cor 15:20 ESV “When you come into the land that I give you and reap its harvest, you shall bring the sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest, and he … [Read more...]

The Spirit of Glory

The Spirit of Glory

... for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. 1 Peter 4:14 In unprecedented measures and in unusual ways God is about to pour out his glory on the earth. But before he does, let us consider what the `glory' is. The Hebrew word for `glory', kabod, carries the meaning of `heaviness' or `weight'. And throughout Scripture it usually signifies the revelation of God's … [Read more...]

The Dwelling of God

The Dwelling of God

And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us …                            John 1:14 God’s purpose has always been to dwell with men. From the beginning of time to its culmination, from Eden to the New Jerusalem, this has been his singular desire. In the Garden, it was God’s habit to come down and commune with the first human community, most probably at the close of each … [Read more...]

The Corporate Christ

The Corporate Christ

... the church, which is his body the fullness of him …   Ephesians 1:23 Unity is not what we think it is! And, for that matter, neither is the church. We think that if we have cooperation between the churches we have unity. Or, if we tolerate the differences of the other group we are making great strides. But the unity of the Spirit is so much more than mere cooperation or … [Read more...]

The Message

21st century Western man is now living in the moral debris of the 20th century experiment—the experiment of messianic statism – Marxist, Fascist, and now secular Humanist – with its rejection of God in Christ as the genius of the Western cultural heritage. Spiritually, morally, and financially bankrupt the West has now exhausted its options.

Our message despite the historic failure of humanity, including the church, is one of certainty and hope. God has a purpose for history and for nations—for their governance, prosperity, and peace. God’s plan for the planet is more than adequate for its crisis. Lifemessenger is committed to speaking a prophetically pertinent word to church and culture.
